As a group we finally decided that we wanted



This is the music that we chose for our final piece, the reason why we choose it was because we though it gave our film opening quite a dreamy feel and effect.
The main reason why we liked the music was because we thought they linked together well. I also like it because there aren't really any words therefore the main focus is on the moving image rather than the lyrics to the song.

Dreams and the reasons for the dream in our piece.

DREAM- a succession of images, thoughts, or emotions passing through the mind during sleep.


The reason why we wanted to make the dream as serial as possible, using lots of saturation and dreamy effects was because we wanted rose's dream to be as far away from her reality as possible. The reason for this is because the main storyline of our film would show the teenage life of rose and how her life is miserable and her dreams us the only way she can escape from reality.

1st Draft for our main project and things that we need to add and change.

This is our very first draft for our final idea. So far we managed to collect the footage for the first part of our film. We edited all the footage we had;
*We went through all of our footage and picked out the parts with the best shots in, we wanted to ensure that we had a wide range of camera angles and shot types.
*We then thought about which shots linked together and what order we should place the shots so they fitted well together as we wanted it to be very flowing,
* We decided because it was set in the 'dream world' we wanted the lighting to be surreal, for this we added lots of saturation to the clips and this gave the footage a nice dreamy effect.
* Then we decided that we wanted some of the footage to be slower than it was to add a more dreamy effect, unfortunately the school computers didn’t provide us with all the effects that we wanted as it is a really basic programme and didn’t allow us to explore the different techniques that we wanted. So as a group we decided to use a more complex programme and work from there, the programme is called....................................... (This programme also provided us with a rewind effect aswell as the speed up effect that we wanted to use at the end, to make it seam like she’s having a flash back of the dream shes just had.)
*We then experimented with different transitions and discusses what effects we though looked best. The transition weffect we choose was fade in as it made the footage have more dreamy effect.

Things to add to our draft.

*Adding the music that we have chosen.
* Titles
* Inbetween the slowmotion footage and the fast rewinded footage we want to add an edited scene from.............. where it goes into the human eye and then add the rewinded footage to make it seem like a flashback.
*After this (eye) scene we are going to add some video footage of the girl waking up.
Mise-En-Scene (for the waking up scene)
* For our opening we discussed and really looked into the mise-en-scene because we wanted the two parts (the dream and the waking up) to be very different from each other showing juxtapostion. I think this would be good as it would show the audience the differences of the dream (serial) world juxtaposed with the reality of the girls life.
*After this discussion we decided that we wanted the girl waking up in a very plain, small room because this is the total oppsite of the dream she had just been in, this would connote that the dream world is the only place she can be free and happy (mainly shown by the bright serial colours) juxtaposed next to her reality world being trapped in a small space, where she lives most of her life.

Things that we need to change.

*Make all the clips the same colours, so they fit together better.
*In the 1st part of the dream we want to add lots of little wispering voices (said by the girl)
-"My happy place"
-"Only my place"
-"My special place"
these voices are supposed to connote that the dream is the only way she can get away from the hassels at home.
*Make the rewinded flashback part more blury and flashy to give it a more serial effect.
*At the end of the dream, before the flash back (when the footsteps come close the screan) we want to add diegetic sound, intime with the last few footsteps of loud knocking on the door to connote someone trying to wake her up by knocking on the door.
*As the flashback starts (coming to the end of the eye scene) the little voices from the start of the opening turn into other peoples voices which are more agressive, leading into her waking up suddenly, looking worried and scared.

The music for our final piece

Before choosing the music for our final piece as a group we though about a few things;

* Wether or not we wanted the music to have lyrics or not
* (If we did want lyrics) What we wanted the lyrics to say
* If we wanted one or more songs (mixed)
* If the music went in time with the footage and if not how we were going to edit it

Ideas for our final piece- eyes on fire (the butterfly effect)

As we were looking through clips on youtube we came across this, the reason why we liked it was because of the transitions and the way that the camera work was quite blured.
We hope to achieve something like this for the begining part of our opening, as i think it has a nice effect and would work well with the dream theme we were trying to get.

After deciding that we were going to use dream as our theme we then looked up videos on youtube and came across this one, the reason why we liked this one was because was because the shot types and scenary. The girl is in a very dream like atmosphere and this video gave us ideas for our final piece. One of the other reasons why we liked it was because of the way the girl blends in with the background and we are aiming to achieve this with our piece.

Some of our planning for our Final task

We had a group discusion and decided that we really needed to think of a new idea that we would stick with.

We brainstormed lots of different ideas and we decised that we wanted the opening to be a dream in serial world.

We had a discusion about different types of dreams and tried to pick one that would go with the genre of the rest of the movie which is- teen drama.

We then thought the dream could link with the girls life, we though that the rest of the story could be about a teenage girl who has a hard home life and the dream (in the opening of the film) is the only way she can get away from reality.

Amimatics For Our Final Idea

These pictures below have been screen shot from some of the footage we collected, they show the shots for our final piece.

I like this shot because it rotates and leaves come falling down, i like the way the camrea turns 360 degrees. When shooting this scene we we trying to think of ways that we could keep the camera as steady as possible, however we then thought that it would look better if it was slightly rocky because we wanted it to show that she had was just faiding into the dream.

This was a shot that we used to experiment with the colour, we liked using lots of saturation as it gave the dream a serial effect.

At this point rose jumps up and throws leaves into the air as she jumps, this is just to show the audiece that she feels free and happy and doesnt have a care in the world.

These clips would show rose running through trees happily. In these clips we were also experimenting with the colours, i think as a group we decided that this is the colours we wanted most of the clips to be as we thought it had the nicest effect for the theme we were trying to achieve.

Most of the clips we got have trees in the backgroud because we wanted to achieve a free, fresh atmosphere.

We then thought that we would experiment further and try a black and white effect. However we didn't like just the black and white effect so we thought that it would look good if the background was just plain dull colours and rose was the only bright object in the frame, however we then discussed as a group and thought that it would take away the strong juxtapostion we wanted to achieve by the end if the dream clips werent full of colour so we decided to stick with our old idea of lots of saturated colour as we thought that gave it a more dreamy effect. (unfortunately some footage came out too dark)

Unfortunately some of the footage we collected came out too dark, so we are unable to use alot that we got so we decided that it was very nessesary to get together as a group and collect mre footage.

Unfortanately this was one of the days as a group we had all got together and chosen to film our footage(This is the origional colour) unfortunately this was too dark when we tried to edit the colour, thereforer it didnt come out very well.

After looking through these images and footage we could discus whether or not we had enough shot types and if the lighting worked well, unfortunately some of the footage we collected came out quite dark on the computer, we edited some of the shots by ajusting the light, contrast and saturation but still werent totally happy with the outcome, so as a group we decided that we were going to meet again to film more, but still keep some of our original footage.
